Hey! It's been a long time! Yep, call me gramma! Two granddaughters, the eldest is 2 1/2 year old Penny and the younger is 4 month old Phoebe. There appears to be a quality sisterly bond, something I never experienced with my estranged sibling. I am looking forward to some adventuring with those two, you bet.
Now that " middle age" has arrived, the sense of urgency, no, the NEED to accomplish the things I couldn't be bothered with in the first half has become an excellently fierce challenge. Exploring. Doing intense physical activity. Zip lines, river tubing, caving, getting lost. Learning new languages, eating interesting food, journeying with a partner or going solo, it doesn't matter. Doing a luxe Mediterranean cruise or backpacking through Vietnam, all splendid. My travel preference is to go with a person who's been there before or just casually read up and then go holo-holo. The Hawaiian term " holo-holo" means that you set out in the morning with absolutely no agenda and just go and do your day as it unfolds. No set schedule, nothing specific. I did a month in Vietnam that way. It was a fine, free feeling.
The current zeitgeist is that more people are valuing experience over stuff. Simpler living means travelling well. What do I collect? Documentation of my experience in the form of photos and videos. And music. All just pixels and mp3 files in a computer, Takes up no extra space, very little cost (If any) makes me happy. Oh yeah, and fridge magnets. Easy to bring home.
So in addition to the impetus of going ELSEWHERE, is the capture, the photo post-production (apps) and the assembling of a video travelogue set to music. And then sharing it. I admit not too many people want to click on someone's boring travel movie even though most of mine are under 4 minutes. And if they were the typical talking head oh I'm eating something weird let me show you this awesome island, blah blah blah, I probably wouldn't bother watching either unless I was planning to visit said location. The videos I make is my art. Images and music both working together. Setting a mood. Celebrating. Yeah, a celebration.
I choose to share my passion with you.
